National Steel and Shipbuilding Company, typically insinuated as NASSCO, is an American shipbuilding association with three [1]shipyards arranged in San Diego, California, Norfolk, Virginia and Mayport, Florida. It is a division of General Dynamics. The San Diego shipyard has some ability in creating business load water crafts and partner vessels for the US Navy and Military Sealift Command; it is the principle new-improvement shipyard on the West Coast of the United States.[2] The Virginia shipyard in a general sense performs ship repairs and changes for the U.S. Navy.The origin of NASSCO takes after to 1905 and a little machine shop and foundry known as California Iron Works.[3][4] In 1922 California Iron Works was expected control by U.S. National Bank and renamed National Iron Works.

In 1944 National Iron Works moved to its present zone at 28th Street and Harbor Drive on San Diego Bay, and in 1949 the association was renamed National Steel and Shipbuilding Co. to reflect its endeavor into vessel improvement
